Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir on June 6, where he will inaugurate a series of landmark infrastructure projects, including the Chenab Rail Bridge, Anji Bridge, and multiple Vande Bharat train services, as part of a broader development push worth over ₹46,000 crore.
According to an official release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the visit will begin around 11 AM with the inauguration of the Chenab Rail Bridge — the world’s highest railway arch bridge, located 359 metres above the Chenab River. Spanning 1,315 metres, this engineering marvel is designed to withstand extreme seismic and wind conditions and will significantly reduce travel time between Katra and Srinagar by 2–3 hours.
Following this, PM Modi will inaugurate the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, located in a geographically challenging area, further enhancing the region’s rail infrastructure.
At Katra, around 12 noon, the Prime Minister will flag off two Vande Bharat Express trains between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar, aiming to improve travel convenience for residents, pilgrims, and tourists alike.
PM Modi will also dedicate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) to the nation — a 272-kilometre-long project valued at ₹43,780 crore, featuring 36 tunnels and 943 bridges. The USBRL promises year-round, seamless rail connectivity between Kashmir Valley and the rest of India, bolstering socio-economic integration.
Additionally, several road and infrastructure projects will be launched to improve last-mile and border connectivity. These include:
- Widening of Rafiabad-Kupwara road on NH-701
- Construction of Shopian bypass on NH-444 (combined worth over ₹1,952 crore)
- Inauguration of flyovers at Sangrama Junction (NH-1) and Bemina Junction (NH-44) in Srinagar
PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra, with an investment of over ₹350 crore. This will be the first medical college in Reasi district, aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region.
This marks the Prime Minister’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since ‘Operation Sindoor’ — India’s retaliatory precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan, launched after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives.
The visit underscores the government’s continued focus on infrastructure, security, and regional development in Jammu and Kashmir.
